ADB to provide 36 million dollar loan to modernize railways///////

ADW's senior transport expert Sunayuki Sakai said in a statement on Wednesday that it was not possible due to the lack of investment and lack of transport due to the lack of investment and the lack of good transport of goods and commuter transport in Bangladesh at affordable, impartial and comparatively low fuel cost.

He said, "It will be possible to increase the efficiency of Bangladesh Railway through the introduction of new technologies and equipment under the ADB's Rail Rolling Stock Operations Improvement Project and the introduction of environmentally friendly work method."

The statement said that once the railways were primarily on the commodity and passenger transport, the railways business fell into Bangladesh due to non-investment in infrastructure development and due to many old vehicles.

The 7th Five Year Plan of Bangladesh has given special importance to the development of the railway. By 2020, the goal of transporting goods through the railways has been fixed at 15 percent of the country's total goods transport and 10 percent for passenger transport.

After launching the Railway Improvement Project in 2006, ADB has given loan of Tk 280 million to four phases till now. That money is spent in the development of railway in Bangladesh and regional connectivity with the neighbors.

And in the newly approved loan, 40 new broad gauge locomotives (engines), 125 luggage wagons and one thousand wagon for freight train will be added to the fleet of Bangladesh Railway.

This loan will be taken up for the development of maintenance, training for drivers and increasing use of information technology.
