Sheikh Hasina said the National Fish 'Hilsa' is a geographical indicator or 'GI' product called 'Bangladesh Hilsa' today. From time immemorial, this fish is playing a unique role in the demand of our national culture, economy, employment, and energy.
In his statement, he mentioned that Bangladesh is now ready to produce fish. In our food, 60 percent of the fish fed fish. In 2008-09, the total production of Hilsa was 2, 98, 9, 211 metric tons. In 2016-2017, the total production of Hilsa increased to 4 lakh 96 thousand 417 metric tons. Hilsa's production increased by more than 66 percent in just eight years.
